In May 2014 I was hired to design a series of 3 bookcovers for novelist Simon Cann. The brief required clean and minimalist designs that clearly convey the idea of a 2014 crime thriller book, whilst avoiding cliche elements of murder mystery such as a photo of a smoking gun/bullet.
For the first book 'The Murder of Henry VIII', it was important to inform the viewer that it was a modern day crime thriller despite the 'Henry VIII' name. A modern gun design was chosen to highlight this. Below is the final design and a series of alternate mockups and themes I created that eventually lead to the final design.
